My parents used their large dining table often, since it was the only room where we could seat everyone comfortably. The interesting thing is that each of us kids grew up and pursued our dreams, eventually moving out of our parents' house. Most of us got married and we now have small families - one or two kids - and eventually some of us became grandparents ourselves. But none of the original nine siblings have big dining rooms with tables like our parents had. I think it must be a generational thing....
We try to get together once in a while, but none of my sibs has room to seat the entire family at one table. Those days are over. My sibs and their extended families are spread out all over the country anyway, it's hard to imagine getting everyone together at the same time for anything. That includes weddings and funerals too.
