The ones in the pepper shaker are too small! At home, I use the store container, and use the slot on one side, not the shaker or the spoon entry.

In restaurants, if it's possible, I unscrew the lid.

Either way, I get all the pepper I want

I bought my neighbor's vintage S&P collection, have many newer sets I bought over the years. The number of holes varies. I think it depends on the size of the shakers, design preference, but not on standardization.
