They ignore income taxes that reach the 50% level very quickly and that the Europeans pay a 20% VAT on everything. The “experts” somehow never seem to make the connection between not getting billed for school and medical care, and why the people take their high taxes in stride. If some American tourist breaks their arm in France and doesn’t get billed for it, it was a donation from the French taxpayers. It was not free. The doctors’ time, the nurses, the staff, the material used—all paid for at the going rate by the French taxpayers (say “merci!” to the nice people!).
