They know two things are absolutely certain:
1) the gravy train of permissiveness and no accountability ALWAYS ends...
2) when it does of them, they will be hanged or imprisoned for life...

If they're LUCKY, the victims' families may plead for leniency and forgiveness...if NOT? Frontier justice had a very nasty way of disposing of their kind of surplus population (to use terminology they would relate to...)
