Sean Hannity said his phone was “blowing up” on Tuesday after state Rep. Zohran Mamdani (D) was elected mayor of New York.

Mamdani defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who lost to Mamdani in June’s Democratic primary, but launched an independent bid. Republican Curtis Sliwa came in third. A democratic socialist who will be New York’s first Muslim mayor, Mamdani has been held up by Republicans and even some centrist Democrats as too radical a candidate to elevate within the party. In the closing days of the campaign, the opposition to Mamdani got increasingly nasty, with one pro-Cuomo PAC running an ad depicting him in front of the Twin Towers falling on Sept. 11, 2001.
