The majority held that birthright citizenship is protected by the 14th amendment, not that it's protected by federal law.

Hence, any law limiting it would be struck down 5-4 as unconstitutional.

Trump doing this is just going to convince his followers that congress could change it but is refusing. He probably thinks it'll help him keep control of congree, but I think ita more likely to convince the republican base that their reps are useless and drive down R turnout this fall.
