but given the event and the politicos who were scheduled to be in attendance, AND given the threats to those people over the past couple years, EVERY entrance should have had some kind of security posture.
I've stayed at the Washington Hilton many years ago and more recently stayed at the Capitol Hilton. You would think that maybe a month or so ago, people were asking why Vance wasn't in some of the "war meetings" and their answer was that they "didn't want the President and Vice President in the same room" as an excuse... yet here they are with not only both top executives BUT many of the cabinet AND members of Congress, all together in one place (basically for a photo-op). 
Hell... there are more ICE goons swarming the streets, breaking into cars to snatch people out, and ramming through doors to kidnap people from their homes, who could have actually been stationed there "for protection".
