Kaiser, union remain divided on second day of strike [View all]

Kaiser Permanente workers in Hawaii and California completed the second day of their unfair labor practice strike with the two sides agreeing to resume local negotiations yet still dug in to their current positions.

The strike involves some 31,000 health care professionals represented by the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals and employed at more than two dozen hospitals and hundreds of clinics within the Kaiser system.

Union officials said the workers — including registered nurses, pharmacists, nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, midwives, physician assistants, rehab therapists, speech language pathologists, dietitians and other specialty health care professionals — will remain on strike until a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.

The two sides have been negotiating a new labor agreement since May 2025. The current contract expired in September 2025.
