TSA Agents Get $10K Bonus for Work During Government Shutdown [View all]

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday distributed $10,000 bonus checks to more than 20 TSA officers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, thanking them for staying on the job during the 43-day government shutdown. Noem traveled to Houston for a news conference marking the first day of the federal governments long-awaited reopening.
In total, according to NBC News, several thousand TSA workers will receive the bonuses. The recipients were noted by their supervisors for going "above and beyond" and for "exemplary" work amid the shutdown.
President Donald Trump signed a bill late Wednesday to fund agencies through Jan. 30, ending a shutdown that prompted layoffs and forced many federal employees including air traffic controllers and TSA officers to work without pay.
Newsweek has reached out to DHS and the White House via email on Thursday afternoon for comment.
