because the Speaker and Rules Committee control the agenda.

HOWEVER, they should have been conducting "shadow government" hearings all along. This is a very normal think in the UK The opposition appoints shadow ministers (secretaries) for each of the main cabinet positions and they hold press conferences, conduct briefings and inquiries as best they can. A shadow panel wouldn't have subpoena power, but it is a god way to get our side of the story in front of the public.

We can certainly conduct hearings in rooms that look very official and we can call friendly witnesses. To the public, this would look just like any official hearing, as long as we don't hold it at Four Season Landscaping.
