There is a notation in the Senate's "Riddick's Rules" that mentions "stopping the clock", where they might "stop the deadline" clock (usually just before midnight) if they are close to some agreement - something often done at the end of the FY if they are almost ready to do a C.R. but are finishing it up. In some cases, especially if the deadline lands on a Friday (which is often the case with expiring C.R.s), the stoppage might go through the weekend with a temp halt in the lapse.
