Trump rewards his cronies with ambassadorships because his corrupt mind knows it allows them to smuggle anything of value in diplomatic pouches with no possibility of searching the contents under diplomatic immunity. So he has reliable "mules" for all sorts of contraband and things like diamonds and top secret documents to be traded. And he allows them a piece of the action to enrich themselves on the sly. Plus he has the added benefit of having kompromat on them if he decides to out them as smugglers.
