Looking at just one of the food-borne pathogens that will no longer be monitored:
Campylobacter- there are roughly 2 million cases per year in the US. Infections cause diarrhea, sometimes severe. Especially dangerous for young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Potential sources of infection include (undercooked) poultry and meats, raw milk, seafood, untreated water, produce, and “pet store puppies.” Insufficient cleaning of utensils and cutting boards are a common cause of problems.
