I was born in Austin, returned there for college, and lived there for many years, leaving in 1998. I worked at the PBS station in town, and we did a lot of political shows. So, I met various Texas state and national politicians over the years, including Doggett.

I have not been back to Texas in a while and lost track of a lot of the players there. I had no idea Doggett was still in office.

Given the situation I think it is both a gentlemanly and politically expedient thing for his to step down and let the next generation step up.

If the redistricting does not stand and Doggett feel he is capable of another term, then having them both stay in the House seems good. If not, him shepherding in a new Dem rep for Austin seems like a good thing.
