I am guessing this is not specific to window seats since Delta does not charge more for those vs aisle, but on picking an assigned seat vs just buying Economy Basic. Basic means you do not pick your seat ahead of time and are assigned a seat based on whatever is left at the gate right before departure.

Picking what seat you want in the main cabin (not including Comfort+ or Preferred) is not priced based on window vs aisle.

As a frequent traveler, people who leave the window shade up all flight annoy me anyway. I might pay more for an aisle seat in a row without a window if I could.

Not sure about United, but I know the Delta and American systems very well.
