Postman was comparing tendencies in the US in the 1980's with Germany in the 1930's. Maybe it is best that Postman did not live long enough to see how wrong he probably was. Postman was a very perceptive man, and very critical of the state of civilization of the US, but even he could not foresee how low it could descend.
