Economists were projecting a possible depression. People were losing their jobs left and right. Even China was being affected. It was a pretty scary time, and all sorts of commodity prices fell around that time. They rapidly bounced back when Obama restored confidence that we weren't going to all be unemployed.

I swear the oil co's might just adopt this as a technique, though, have a 1 day 1/2 off sale every time a new Democrat is inaugurated President.
