It doesn't. It is a failing theocracy whose climate is collapsing and its people hate it. Trump made a mess of American interests, but that does not mean that Iran has more power over the Gulf States than it did before, it just means that Trump sucks.

Iran is in very bad shape economically, socially, and militarily. Creating a toll on the Strait is mostly trolling of Trump by Iran and left leaning and MSM media, but the reality is that all the producers have alternative supply chains, and it is not really in Iran's interest to block the Strait.
