He came of age when carpeted bathrooms were the rage. I remember looking for my first apartment in the mid 70s and rejecting any of the many apartments still hanging around with carpeted bathrooms.

And I suspect there is a lot of cross-over between people who like carpeted bathrooms and tacky gold.
