GOP led Congress leaves town with housing, defense and farm bills unfinished [View all]

(NewsNation) — House Republican leaders called off a series of scheduled votes Friday, leaving several major bills in limbo as lawmakers prepare to leave Washington for the holiday break.

Speaker Mike Johnson told President Donald Trump the House will be back Monday, but there's a catch: The Senate heads into recess Saturday and won't be back for votes until July 13.

That means nothing major is getting done in Congress for at least the next two weeks.

Several big pieces of legislation are now on hold, including Trump's elections overhaul bill — the SAVE America Act — a bipartisan housing bill, a defense spending bill and a major funding package.
