that he had been told the extent of known defects thus far and that it was quite large. With his babble, there is always inflation, so I do not take the new 300 ft figure to mean new information has been acquired.

One thing that is not clear to me reading the tea leaves of his bloviating is whether the 200+ft figure means that there is a continuous defect that large, or if the general region where defects are occurring is that large but the defects are discontinuous within the area. That part doesn't really matter of course, it is just curiosity.
