Didn't the Soviets liberate Auschwitz?

from wiki: "The first in the camp complex to be liberated was Auschwitz III, the IG Farben camp at Monowitz; a soldier from the 100th Rifle Division of the Red Army entered the camp around 9 am on Saturday, 27 January 1945."

Ah:"first 30 American soldiers to enter the gates of the Auschwitz concentration camp after it was turned over to U.S. forces."

Can you even imagine what it must have been like to see these camps? In school they showed us "Night And Fog" which contained actual film of the camps. Piles of matchstick corpses. Even to sadism-deadened viewers in the 21st, this is shocking.
