But then, if the company has to print and mail the paper statements to you that increases their costs which means they'll cover that expense by charging their customers more.

I've gone paperless and I save my statements to a computer as well as a backup hard drive. I can print whatever I need when I need it or I'll print quarterly statements and file them knowing if something is suspicious or wrong I have a stating point.
