(115 posts)Yes I did try to just give a general idea of profound to give some idea of what profound intellectual disability looks like. How would you describe someone with profound intellectual disability since you seem to think my description is not accurate enough. Yes I have worked with all levels of intellectual disabilities. I've worked with infants who are high risk for delays. I worked with children and adults with significant disabilities. I've worked with children on the spectrum. I've worked with families in the home to help determine goals and helping access program services. The adults i worked with were severe and profoundly handicapped. Most were nonmobile and nonverbal and unable to take care of any of their daily needs. They required wheelchairs and someone to lift and move them. Do you not agree that that is profound disability? This meets the guidelines we used in North Carolina. Also psych testing of IQ indicated profound level of development. I would enjoy further information from you on your definition of profound. The next level up is severe. It is somewhat different in ability but still requires requires support at a level zi would maximum. Maybe not the term would would use. Thanks for responding. Too bad this isn't a good avenue for indepth discussion. I would have enjoyed it. I understand you take exception to some terms I used. My definition of constant supervision maybe different than yours. I'm sorry I didn't meet your standard of explaining what profound is. I guess I should have gone into more detail. But thanks for correcting me. I'm not looking to argue. I think there is always room for good discussion and sharing of information.
