23. It was definitely one hell of a nice group!

I had been trying to arrange it for almost a year. Trying to get three of your favorite Democratic Senators to come to dinner on the same evening is NOT an easy thing to arrange!

One funny note—two Republican Senators were having dinner at a table just outside the private room the restaurant gave us. I hadn’t asked for it, but they did it for us anyway. It was Roy Blunt of Missouri and Shelley Capito-Moore of West Virginia. They had seen their three Democratic colleagues walk in, so they poked their heads in to say hello, and it was obvious that they desperately wanted to know who the two secret Democratic movers and shakers were that they didn’t recognize at all. That would have been my brother and yours truly. But they couldn’t think of how to ask without being intrusive, so they didn’t. My brother and I gave them a little wave when they left, and they must have left the evening completely perplexed as to who the “secret Democratic operators” were. We all had a big laugh over it, because it was written all over their faces. Grandsons of George Soros, maybe? I’m sure that if I had told them that we were just two nobodies, they would have been convinced of the opposite! 😝
