that past very long period of support in the face of his serious physical and mental health problems--serious enough that most high level candidates would have been dismissed from serious consideration. His was a pretty miraculous Senate win--probably largely because of his wife's attempts to reassure the Dem "power brokers" behind the scene. I note she has disappeared from any discussion the past couple of years. One might wonder why?
