had friends who did. my small town was lucky, there was an obgyn who did them ‘on the qt’. (everyone knew). but he was very spendy.
it was legal in wis in those days and there was a weekly bus to a clinic over the state line. had a friend who did that, and bled like crazy when she got back. they did a crappy job, and she cd do nothing but cross her fingers and hope. the public hospital probably did more than they admitted. you couldnt get a d&c for a miscarriage at the catholic hospital unless u were married. even then, they grilled u while u bled.

i remember very well when the very catholic president of the cook co board woke up 1 morning and decreed there wd b no more abortions at cook co hospital, even for botched abortions. they closed down the ward. have often wondered how many women died cuz of that man.

i knew more than a few girls and women who wd have ended pregnancies if it werent for the stigma, including my sister. they kicked her out of catholic school as soon as they found out she was pg. 🙄🙄🙄
i went to the same school and had a nun who hated ME for it.
