CA-GOV: Becerra holds slim lead over Steyer, Hilton in California governor's race, new poll finds [View all]

Former Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra has taken a slight lead in the packed race to be California’s next governor, according to new polling data released Wednesday.

The Emerson College Polling and Inside California Politics survey found the Democrat polling at 19 percent, ahead of Republican Steve Hilton and Democrat Tom Steyer.

Hilton, a GOP political consultant and former Fox News commentator, and Steyer, a billionaire businessman, both polled at 17 percent in the survey.

Republican sheriff Chad Bianco and former Democratic U.S. Rep. Katie Porter were the only other two candidates in the crowded gubernatorial race to poll at or above 10 percent in the new poll.
