As I see it, the Democratic party has almost ZERO presence between elections

ON ISSUES THAT WE ALL AGREE UPON

Fraidy cats don't want to "take sides" in primaries, so the GOP 24 by 7 by 365 hate and lie machine goes unchecked, and they OWN the issues. Namely, they blast the hell out of progressive ideas, and bury their horiffic performance on economic and working class matters.

WE GAVE UP THAT BATTLEGROUND.

Take it back and win.
