Mass. rape survivors deliver powerful message after Stephen Paul Gale verdict decades in the making [View all]

May 8, 2026

WOBURN, Mass. —
Thirty-six years after they were attacked and one month after the man who raped them was finally convicted, two survivors returned to the courtroom that changed their lives.

Jennifer and Tammy, who agreed to show their faces and use their first names, spoke with 5 Investigates' Karen Anderson about their case, the trial and finally seeing justice served.

The women were working in a Hit or Miss clothing store in Framingham two days after Christmas in 1989 when a man posing as a customer walked in, pulled out a gun and raped them.

For years, all they had was a police sketch and a fleeting hope of justice. In 2021, after seeing 5 Investigates reports about untested rape kits, they asked authorities to reopen their case. Thanks to their efforts, investigators used DNA preserved by Tammy that day and forensic genetic genealogy to reach into the suspect's family tree and identify him.
