Note: Virginia supreme court justices are "re-elected" by state lawmakers, meaning the legislature chooses whether to reappoint them or replace them. Two of the four justices in the majority today against the new congressional map will be "up" by early 2028.

In response to redistricting rulings that have gone against them over the last 18 months, Utah Republicans have (1) passed a law to pack the court and are about to name two new justices, and (2) have launched a major push to oust two justices in their retention races this fall.
