Half a billion [View all]

At some point, Americans have to stop pretending words mean what they appear to mean in Trumpworld. We are not talking about a modest East Wing expansion or a grand hall for state dinners.

Half a billion dollars is not “renovation” money. It is hardened infrastructure money. It is bunker money. It is command-center money.

And coming from a man who already proved he would rather tear at the fabric of constitutional government than surrender power, the request deserves scrutiny.
Trump did not run again simply out of civic duty or patriotic longing. He ran because the walls were closing in legally, politically, and financially. The presidency once again became both shield and sword: protection from prosecution, protection from humiliation, protection from the terrifying prospect of finally becoming just another citizen subject to the law.
That matters when evaluating anything he builds around himself.
