None of the insurance companies would benefit from a subrogation lawsuit against the son, unless he's independently wealthy outside of his parents' and his coverages. People sue family members only when there's insurance coverage for injuries caused by that insured family member (in many states no direct action against the insurer is available). Maybe the adjuster was just trying to be "helpful," but they rarely are. Did the son get other compensation as a collateral source that the insurer was looking for?
