While the fluorescent-lit gameshow corpse was busy paused-not-paused on Project Freedom, Beijing quietly took a sledgehammer to 70 years of US financial dominance.
On May 2nd, Chinas commerce ministry issued an order, the first of its kind, stating that China shall not recognise or enforce sanctions imposed by the United States. Not a leak. Not a rumour. An official fucking ministerial order. China is now legally instructing its companies to ignore Washingtons sanctions regime and keep trading with whoever the fuck they want, including Iran.
If youve been waiting for the moment the US empire stopped being able to dictate global trade by waving a pen and a press release, congratulations. You just lived through it.
Heres France 24 laying it out:
Well, theres been no reaction from Tehran so far to the USs abrupt U-turn. The countrys Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, is in Beijing holding talks with his Chinese counterpart. China is a key customer for Iranian oil, defying sanctions imposed by the United States. The talks come as Washington calls on China to put pressure on Araghchi to loosen Tehrans chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz. Beijing is playing the long game. Five Chinese companies have been put on the blacklist recently, faced with transaction bans and asset freezes. And on May 2nd, Chinas commerce ministry issued for the first time an order stating that China shall not recognise or enforce sanctions imposed by the US. Donald Trump has changed international norms, and China is now really leaning into this situation and taking a page out of his book by encouraging Chinese companies to defy international sanctions. Beijing has really set a precedent that could change how global trade and international financial systems look like in the future.

Trump thought he was creating dominance; instead he created a vacuum into which stable countries stepped
