The problem of course is that high gas prices hurt millions of people who can least afford it, and is inflationary because it affects all goods transported by petroleum-based fuels.

We need to tackle affordability on multiple other fronts, including health care and education, while recognizing the additional costs of fossil fuels. Middle East wars have cost us $trillions, and the effects of catastrophic climate change can be devastating.

The USA should be leading the world in transition away from fossil fuels, but the administrations of GW Bush and Donald Trump have been unmitigated disasters.

When are American voters going to wise up? I'm not holding my breath. Even if Democrats win the midterms, the biggest factor will be the price of gas.
