Former CENTCOM commander Gen. Votel skeptical of military value of Kharg seizure: "Im not sure what the significance is of putting troops there. Its only about 20 miles off the coast of Iran. So youre definitely under the threat of their weapon systems. Youd be very, very vulnerable there. And I dont know that it would give us any particular tactical advantage that we dont already have or couldnt get someplace else at an offset location where we have established bases and other things like that. So Im not sure what the tactical advantage of it is."

Former CENTCOM Commander Gen. Votel on likely continuing impact of even a small residual Iranian missile and drone capability: "Dont pay attention to the numbers. The fact of the matter is, theyre going to have a remnant portion of capabilities, and thats a portion were focused on right now. Irans strategy has been to broaden the conflict by hitting a lot of different places, 12 or 13 different countries, and then to extend it by continuing to present this threat to us over a long period of time. They dont have to shoot large volleys of missiles and drones. They just have to get some across. They just have to launch some every day. And thats going to keep our focus, and its going to keep us occupied doing that. So thats their strategy on this."
