Impossible to believe anything Trump says on Iran. Did he really tell Israel to stop airstrikes we apparently approved?

..strikes on Iranian oil fields which he, himself, had just threatened?

___In a meeting held on Thursday in the Oval Office...Trump stated that he had spoken with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and told him unequivocally to stop the strikes on Iranian oil and gas facilities.

During the Oval Office briefing, the president was asked directly whether he had spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu about the Israeli strikes on Iranian oil and gas fields, and answered, "Yes, I spoke with him. I told him not to do it – and he won't do it again," the president declared.

He added, "We are independent and getting along just fine. It is coordinated, but sometimes he – Netanyahu – does something; if I don't like it, then we simply don't do it anymore."

Trump's remarks came against a backdrop of contradictory reports. Israeli and American sources confirmed to CNN and Reuters – and the IDF confirmed earlier Thursday – that the previous strike on the South Pars gas field had been fully coordinated with Washington.

"The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen," Trump wrote last night on Truth Social. "NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar - In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before."

"I told him don't do that, and he won't do that," Trump told a reporter who asked on Thursday. "We're not doing that anymore."


REPORTER: You talked to Minister Netanyahu about attacking the oil and gas fields.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Yeah, I did. I did. I told him don't do that, and he won't do that. We didn't discuss, you know, we do.

We're independent. We get along great. It's coordinated, but on occasion, he'll do something, and if I don't like it--and, so we're not doing that anymore.

...WaPo reported yesterday that Trump had threatened to do what he now says he told Israel to 'stop'.

___After an Israeli strike on Iran’s portion of the South Pars gas field, which it shares with Qatar, on Wednesday, Iran retaliated with attacks that caused “extensive damage” at Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas facility, according to local officials.

The attacks sent the global oil benchmark soaring and prompted a scramble in Washington: President Donald Trump issued a stark threat “to blow up the entirety” of Iran’s South Pars gas holdings if Iran attacked Qatar again, and his treasury secretary said the U.S. would consider lifting sanctions on millions of barrels of Iranian oil.

Later in the meeting, Trump said, in apparent reference to Kharg Island, Iran’s Gulf oil export hub: “We can take out the island, anytime we want; I call it the little island that sits there, totally unprotected.”
