But I'm trying to figure out the general theme of all the portraits he has on the wall opposite him.

We have on the top row:
Theodore Roosevelt
John Adams
Benjamin Franklin
George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
(I can't make out who that is)
Franklin Roosevelt

Second row includes:
Martin Van Buren
Ulysses Grant (I THINK as it's pretty tiny)
(James Monroe is my best guess, but I again it is tiny and I can't really make out who it is)
James K Polk (I believe...it's pretty dark from fading I'd assume, but there's a famous Polk portrait that looks like that)
