There is nothing at all wrong with Jasmine Crockett - she is a great rep. But she was in a safe district in Dallas, and the republicans are the ones who gerrymandered that seat (quite recently, Talarico had announced his candidacy in Sept & she didn't enter the race until Dec.). Those of us who are down here watched Hillary & Kamala both crash and burn down here, and Wendy Davis, who took on Abbott with seemingly a lot of support got crushed. It's not Jasmine, it's Texas. We are dealing with our reality, not how we'd like it to be.
I know many folks never heard of him before, but he's in his mid-30s and is a locally popular state rep. Very much like how Obama kind of came out of the blue for people around the country who didn't know him. He's a talented young man, and I can tell you as someone who has lived in Texas a couple of decades, religion is very important to many people down here. It doesn't mean you're mixing religion and country - it just means that people down here kind of "place" you when they meet you with questions like "what church do you go to?". He fits right in, and that's what you want in someone running for office down here. I still think he's a massive underdog against Cornyn or Paxton, and that's what folks should focus on. We are lucky to get such a good candidate, and we will try our best to elevate him.
