As House Republicans prepare to pass the SAVE America Act to his chamber as soon as Wednesday, Fetterman said his comments on Fox News over the weekend may have been taken out of context.

In an interview with the Post-Gazette, he stressed that he did not say that he would support the bill, which is an expansive effort to require proof of citizenship during voter registration and photo ID during voting, limit registration by mail and purge voter rolls more frequently, among other measures.

Fetterman said the changes to curtail mail-in registration were "a nonstarter" for him. Even if he were to vote for the bill, he said, it's almost certain to die in the Senate because it won't win the necessary 60 votes.
