If history repeats itself, the fallout will be that EVERY person on the "left", no matter how innocuous their affiliation, will be forced to resign their position. It won't matter if it's a political, business, or academic position, just the "appearance of impropriety" will be enough.

The problem with that is the Republicans and their media will jump all over it saying that the Democrats are clearly the guilty parties and the only problem, not them.

Guilty Republicans just refuse to admit anything and refuse to resign, which keeps the insanity going and going and going.

We blink and they won't, which gives them ammo to pound us even more when they are clearly the problem.
