So Democrats never pushed back on the immigration math lies of Trump. They simply allowed him to make up any gigantic number he wanted with no push back.
So Trump spewing 20 Million or 25 million unchallenged is a big reason for the mess we're in. There have never been that many undocumented immigrants in the US. At most it's been 11-13 Million and there's a lot of nuance in that number still. The bulk of those people came here legally and overstayed their Visas, that's not what people think about when they think of illegal immigration, people think of sneaking across the border. People do sneak across the border or are smuggled across it, but they make up a minority of the people being targeted right now.
So you have these made up and exaggerated numbers driving everything. It's why you're seeing ICE targeting people here legally like asylum seekers and people whose work visas are totally legit.
The reality is the number of actual criminal immigrants is exceedingly small, it's not a million. And some of those people are truly undocumented so they're harder to track and to find. The system is set up now for payment by throughput, and it's a lot easier to snag people who are showing up to court for the legit immigration cases than to go find the type of people that I think everyone agrees should be removed. So that's what you have, ICE going after the young mother with children who shows up to a hearing, but not going after some actual dangerous criminal because they're too hard to track.
And when you make up a crazy number like 25M, it means this never ends, ICE is still growing quickly and they're never going to stop what they are doing. They're already deporting totally legal immigrants, how long before they start deporting citizens en masse to keep making their quotas?
