Or is it just because this was hot Latinos and Latinas that are close enough to being White it might affect their racist families?

Honestly, IMO, Sex and Sports have always gone together.
You have young adults who have built their bodies up to peak strength, confidence, and capabilities - which presents as attractive virility across all species.
So, complementary sexual interests will naturally follow.
People want to see strong, confident, and attractive people hook up, because that's what they want to imagine for themselves.
If they were just as young, strong, and confident, they can have their pick of the hot chicks and studs.
