What is going on [View all]
Yesterday I started to see stories about how car manufacturers are already moving to a subscription service for your car functions, from seat warmers to navigation. To maintain the full functionality of you car you could spend $600 dollars or more a year just to use stuff that was just part of car a couple years ago.
Now, on top of that, Congress, including Democrats, have passed the law (in Biden's infrastructure bill) and now the funding in this latest appropriations bill, to mandate kill switches in cars.
The short explanation is that when you start up the car and even while you are driving, the car gets decides if you are driving ok or acting drunk, tired or reckless and if it thinks you are any of those bad things it just shuts itself off, completely on its own and you have no ability to turn it back on. Sweet. I'm sure that will go perfectly.
All I know is my next car will be used car.
