When my children were young, I brought them to various churches and services. I trusted them to be able to make good decisions in whatever path they took. My daughters did belong to a local church that I had an interest in, as when he was a teen, future Senator/ federal prosecutor Daniel Dickinson drew the foundation stones wit an ox. I would eventually get it on the state and federal register, against some opposition. Reading the history of the church, it turned out there was a split every twenty years.

Some there wanted me to write grants for them, something I had done in other contexts over the decades. But then I learned how much they had in savings. Gracious! They'd tell me they were saving it for a "rainy day." This was perfect, because I knew the story about a similar situation, before this church was built, and they held services in a school room. At one meeting, 130 or so years before, they were arguing about investing in a new roof. A thunderstorm came up, and the roof caved in.

Because my daughters were members, sometimes I'd go with them. It was ruined for them one Sunday when two adult men got into a shouting match. That was it for my girls. Before I left, I approached the two gentlemen with something Rubin Carter asked me long ago: What do you have when a wise man argues with a fool? Two fools. It didn't make them calm down, but at least they turned their anger upon me!
