43. Amioderone? Our family called it 'the evil A drug' for this reason

Known to bring on orthostatic hypotension — when one stands up, the tendency for blood pressure to drop sometimes leading to the person dropping (to the floor) along with it

The cocktail of heart meds after an arrhythmic event “echoed a lot” across family members. One of them had a particular problem with this drug, falling and hitting his head a couple of times after he started taking it. It’s a known side effect.

My layman’s simplistic comprehension of what the drug does is slows the response of the heart to reduce the chance of arrhythmias, but when you stand up your heart naturally needs to respond so that it can maintain blood pressure and pump blood up your body to your head. A drug that delays that response can allow the blood pressure to drop dangerously low.
