Anecdotal evidence of a recession or stagflation [View all]

I just went to one of my favorite stores to pick up a Christmas tree skirt and a few other small things. When I arrived I saw three, yes only three, other customers across two levels of the large store. Just a few more arrived as I was leaving. I’m not much of an impulse buyer, but I walked around just hoping to be tempted by something to get for gifts or for me, to support the employees. I saw lots of seasonal things marked down (and it’s only Dec. 2), but unfortunately, nothing I really wanted to buy at the prices set.

This is prime shopping season, so I was really surprised. I know it’s only an N of 1, but it’s consistent with reports. I really believe we are in a recession, at least in this state or region.
