3. Trump knows that if he says this over and over a large segment of the population

will believe him even as they experience the increased prices for basically everything. A good example of this is his tariffs. It is common knowledge that tariffs are simply a tax on American consumers and American businesses (which pass their cost on to consumers) but there are still lots of his supporters that believe anything he says.

This is based on a psychological effect called the Illusory truth effect - you tell a lie so often a lot of people will think it is true and if the lie is more soothing than the truth, all the more reason to keep telling it.

It is obvious that Trump is a pathological liar, it has worked for him his entire life. Some say he learned it from the lawyer Roy Cohn. Cohn taught him to always attack, never apologize or admit he was wrong, and to "make stuff up" when needed. Cohn's advice was to "fight it, deny everything, ignore the facts, and go after your attacker".

This reasoning is constantly reinforced by places like FOX, Newsmax, OAN, and social media.
