As evil empires go... I have to say I'm hopeful. [View all]
Maybe a lot of you don't remember Dark Lord Cheney and the Project for the New American Century. That nightmare... that was a hell of a regime. I thought for certain they were going to take over the world and force us all to listen to Rush Limbaugh constantly.
They tried... they tried. But well... they faultered and here we are. But that was an evil empire... well, evilish.
The Soviet Union back in the day, right? That was an empire that would be terrifying to face right now... Putin is no slouch but he's not the might and muscle of the Soviet Union.
Who else? You know like the Nazi's in WW2... scary group of people. A group that you look at and go hmm... that's going to be tough to live with as they seem as though they have their shit together and well, really love evil. Like Atilla the Hun and his crew... or Napolean even... though I don't know if we was truly evil either. I didn't know the guy.
And I'm not saying anyone or any group is evil now... or really ever was... this is just judging a book by its cover. That being said... The Trump regime is very far from the worst evil the world has ever faced. It's definitely not the brightest but it doesn't feel like it did when Darth Cheney and his minions were manipulating the media so a yell gets you kicked out of a race. This guy was convicted of raping women and is probably a kid diddler to boot... and he's celebrated by the same self-righteous Bible thumpers that put Bush and Cheney in all those years ago.
I don't see these clowns as a real threat to the union... I see them as a symptom of a very real problem... but I think that problem is more in our identity than some exestential threat to world peace or the American way. I think we are going to weather this storm and realize just how fragile our alliances really are...and not just with out allies... but with our own families.
I'm glad the evil we face isn't as evil as it was in days past... doesn't make it not evil... doesn't make any of this shit right. Not at all... but it does make me hopeful that even evil is losing it's ability to trick us into despair.
