Words and warnings and a "presence" don't mean much to people who are not moved by them.

"Busting heads" is an option, especially when the situations escalate, but I can't walk away with a clean impression that she wanted to do that.

As you say, ambiguous, but if what they boyfriend is sharing is true, I can see how she'd come to the conclusion that her presence was "pointless."
